If Jesus had the attention of the crowd, why did he gather the twelve?

Mark tells us, “And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach.” -Mark 3:14

The crowd was ideal for inspiration, teaching, and worship. However, the smaller group of the twelve was better for discipleship. In this group, they learned to be with Jesus and were disciplined into disciple-makers.

Disciples of Jesus today need the support of “the twelve.” This is the aim of our Life Group ministry.

Long-time members of the Palmer SDA Church can point to seasons of spiritual growth and church health and notice that these times were supported by strong small-group ministries. Some of you will remember the Grow Group ministry that dissolved about five years ago. Others have been part of a Community Group this past year. Life Groups are a continuation of these ministries with a few new features that we hope will make group discipleship more consistent, inclusive, and accessible.

Open Enrollment- Have you ever felt that you missed your opportunity and will NEVER get another one? Or that you committed to something that you can NEVER get out of? We want to avoid these in our Life Group ministry by having an open enrollment reset each quarter. When you commit to a group, it is not a lifelong commitment. And if you miss enrollment, you can catch the next one. Open Enrollment will be on the following Sabbaths: January 11, April 5, July 5, and October 4.

Sermon Discussion Questions- Groups do not have to follow along with the sermons, but we are making group discussion content easy to prepare for by supplying discussion questions from the same Bible passage that the sermon follows. Leaders do not have to prepare a study each week, just follow along.

Life Group Leader Training- We are looking for two types of leaders: those willing to host a group in their home and those eager to lead the group discussion and prayer time. Hey, our first Life Group training is next Sabbath, December 7, at 1:30 pm. If you are even slightly interested, you should come!
