Spiritual Encouragement from Karen Carlton

Last week at AGA, we have had two days of parent/teacher conferences.  In the midst of Math, Reading, Science, and Bible, we take a pause to reflect on the past nine weeks, evaluate what’s going well and where we need to make some changes, and the areas of growth we are anticipating in the next nine weeks.

Most of the conversation is about the things that are going well, the celebrations and the growth.  Some of the conversations are difficult because expectations can be challenging, and growth is sometimes hard.  But growth is good.  Expectations are necessary to live successfully within our family, community, and world. 

This makes me stop to reflect on the intentional pause we build into school calendars.  What if we paused for a parent/teacher conference with God every nine weeks?  What would that look like? 

I think, like some students, we might find ourselves trying to tell God about all the good things we are doing to try to outweigh the things we know we should do but maybe don’t want to do. 

Personal and spiritual growth can be challenging.  But God already knows the good deeds, He understands our desire to be seen and to be valued for what we can offer.  But He also knows what things will help us grow.  Not from a vindictive standpoint but from a place of love and wanting what is absolutely the best for His creation.

There is an induction ceremony for Pathfinders and Adventurers on November 9^th  at 2:00 pm at the Palmer SDA Church. Come celebrate a vibrant youth ministry.
