Connection Project

Palmer SDA E-News

Last Saturday night, 18 people gathered in the church Fellowship Hall with a mission to send a letter to as many members and friends of the Palmer SDA Church as possible. Why? They weren’t sharing any breaking news but simply trying to connect.

The envelope-stuffing assembly line was part of a much larger mission to be a church that acts like Jesus. Our world may be hostile, conflicted, and falling apart, but the church doesn’t have to be. There are 530 members of the Palmer SDA Church and many more in our extended church family.  Where are they? Do they feel welcome to re-engage? Have we let them know that we love them? Is our church a safe place for those hurt by the church?

We have committed to being a welcoming church family and to extend that welcome to those who aren’t coming around to notice it. Last Saturday night was a piece of that commitment. We will send monthly mailings to every member and friend of our church for whom we can get an accurate address. These mailings will establish a non-judgmental and regular connection with those we haven’t seen in a while. In the coming months, we will gradually add to our effort to connect with personal letters, phone calls, visits, service projects, and individual invitations.

Let’s spread the excitement that was felt in the room Saturday night! Here are some ways you can be involved.

1. Pray!

2. Check your mailbox. If you have a church mailbox, you have a letter there. If not, we either don’t have your address, or you have a letter coming to your mailbox.

3. Update our mailing list. Contact Carol Baker at [email protected] with any of the following information:

  • If you attend church regularly and do not need to receive the monthly mailing. You can pick up the monthly newsletter at the church and save postage expenses.

  • If you want a church mailbox.

  •  If you have an updated address.

  •  If you have contact information that we are missing for members and friends. You can look through a list in the church office and fill in the missing pieces.

4. Help prepare the December mailing. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, November 30, at 5:30pm.

5. Volunteer for prayer, calls, visits, or service by contacting Rob Apel (907) 360-1900.

AGA Volleyball Tournament

This will be a blast! Don’t worry about dinner this Tuesday. Burritos and drinks will be available for purchase in the AGA while we enjoy a tournament and fellowship. Come at 3:30 pm (or 3 pm if you are playing) and stay until we have a champion team!

Time of Singing and Praise

Join us on Testimony Sabbath at 2 p.m. to sing your favorite hymns and share your favorite Bible verses. Bring your instruments, singing voice, or whistle, and enjoy fellowship with your church family.

Arctic Mission Adventure

November 30th is the NPUC annual offering in support of Arctic Mission Adventure. AMA provides community-based ministries including day camps, Bible studies, food pantries, leadership development, and outreach programs in Bush Alaska. We are grateful for the significant growth of AMA, but more than 200 villages still need an AMA presence! Your offering on November 30th will go towards placing workers in villages and ensuring that Adventist parsonages and churches remain open. And, if you are mission-minded, consider becoming an AMA worker and be the hands & feet of Jesus in Alaska!

Fellowship Meal

Awe, isn’t it lovely? We have a fellowship meal every week. No more struggling to remember which week has a meal. Get in the habit of bringing food and enjoying a meal after the service EVERY WEEK!
