Palmer SDA E-News

Alaska Conference is happy to share that Rodney Mills has answered the call to serve as its next president.
This decision follows a comprehensive and prayerful process guided by the Holy Spirit. The selection of the new president was a collaborative effort between the conference’s executive committee and nominating committee. With prayerful discernment, thoughtful deliberation, and valuable feedback from members shaping the candidate profile, the process reflected a shared commitment to God’s leading.
Mills most recently served Upper Columbia Conference of Seventh-day Adventists as vice president of administration. He has a vast amount of pastoral experience at multi-staff and multi-church districts in Wisconsin and Texas. He also spent a few years as Texas Conference ministerial director before being called to the UCC.
He has a strong interest in developing missionaries of all ages. He holds a Doctor of Ministry from Andrews University. His doctoral work focused on natural church development with the Adventist Church in the United States.
“I look forward to ministering together across Alaska and seeing what God is going to do as we join hands to share the love of Jesus from Barrow to Ketchikan from Tok to Gambell and all points in between,” Mills said.
Mills and his wife Pamela will transition to Alaska Conference over the next few months. They are looking forward to settling down in Anchorage and getting to know all the pastors, staff and teachers throughout the conference very soon. Elder Mills will be making every effort to visiting all the churches and schools during 2025.
John Freedman, NPUC president who oversaw the search process, shared the following words of invitation: “Please pray for God’s sweet anointing of the Holy Spirit on Pastor Rodney and Pamela as they transition to Anchorage and begin their ministry of uplifting Jesus Christ before the Alaska constituency and focus on bringing the Good News of the Three Angels’ Message of Jesus Christ and His soon return to the Alaskan people.”

Our time with the Tucker starts next Tuesday! Don’t miss it. Invite a friend.

6 pm Sabbath

Did you miss out on our candle-lit gathering? Last Sunday, all 6 of our Ministry Teams met for a combined total of nearly 12 hours, and for 3½ of those hours, we were without power. It was a reflection of our unstoppable God. A hurricane swept through. Palmer was flooded. The power was out. Ministry continued!
If you missed it, let’s catch you up. Our ministries flow through these 6 ministry teams…

These teams meet quarterly. You are invited to attend. The next team meeting day is scheduled for April 13!
Here are some of the highlights from the team meetings last Sunday.
Worship Team: We have organized rotation schedules for worship service roles for the year, but there are still many opportunities to be involved with praise teams, scripture readings, children’s stories, audio/visual, and greetings!
Children’s Ministry Team- Pathfinders and Adventurers are thriving. Our kid’s life group begins Sabbath, January 25, at 4 pm (Contact Stephanie at 907-928-6682 for more info), and we have plans for VBS in June!
Fellowship Team- In addition to hosting a fellowship meal every Sabbath, the Fellowship Team is going big next Sabbath with soup and bread at 6:00 pm on Friday, January 24, and light snacks and refreshments at 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 25. All this feasting accompanies our meetings with Mike and Pam Tucker.
Home Team- We discussed the priority of several major projects, such as installing a water softener system, sealing and striping our parking lot, remodeling the church sanctuary, and making updates to the church kitchen. In the meantime, come to the workbee on Sunday.
Inreach Team- Offering support to the active ministries of member engagement, life Groups, adult Sabbath Schools, prayer meeting, prayer ministry, Virginia’s Kids, and promoting a Woman’s Retreat, April 25-27.
Outreach Team- We heard from Tobin Dodge about Arctic Mission Adventure and discussed some accessible ways we can be involved in the mission.

There is a workbee scheduled for this Sunday, 12-4 pm. Stay for the church business meeting at 4 pm. Jump in on the following projects to help us care for our church building:
- Fix church kitchen lazy Susan
- Clean Windows
- Clean exhaust vents in bathrooms
- JB Weld table braces in the training room
- Install doorstop on wall in Junior room
- Clean window screens
- Deep clean church kitchen
- Attach foam board to side of the church
- Adjust cabinet doors in kitchen

Member Engagement
Come this Saturday, January 18, at 5:30 pm for a light meal and a good time preparing the February mailing of our church newsletter. The mailing helps our church stay connected and is an outreach to our members we haven’t seen in awhile. We will also be sending letters to Virginia’s Kids, the young people in our church whose lives have taken them some distance from the Palmer Church.
